Listen to Recordings

Collecting and recording oral histories is a great way of telling the important stories of people from a local area. This medium was perfect for our project to record stories about the life and times of Bideford’s wharves.

Taking the adage “people make a place” and applying it to interviewing people who have memories of pastimes, key events in history, and insights of how a culture, workplace or natural environment used to be – we have collected emotional, interesting and eye-opening first-person accounts from the Bideford population.

To listen to the recordings, just search under name or topic, choose the oral history file you want and press play. They have been categorised for accessibility, and some stories have been edited into short segments to make them easier to listen to.
